Sobre a Colômbia, diz parte da análise da patota do The Fund for Peace:
Colombia’s economy improved markedly in the FSI 2006, due largely to recovering coffee prices and President Alvaro Uribe’s strict financial policies. The public sector deficit fell to below 1.5% of the GDP and there was increased foreign direct investment in the Colombian economy in 2005, improving the indicator score by an impressive amount, nearly 4 points. Despite the improved economic situation in most of Colombia, there still exists chronic and acute poverty throughout much of the interior of the country, particularly in the large swaths of territory controlled by rebel and paramilitary groups. The indicator score for uneven economic development improved slightly in the FSI 2006, but severe disparities still exist between urban and rural areas.
President Uribe’s economic and security policies continued to gain approval from most Colombians living within government-controlled territory and he was granted the right to run for a second term by a constitutional court increasing his popularity and legitimacy, as evidenced by the improved score in this indicator. The continued clashes with the FARC throughout 2005 left a significant portion of the population without adequate access to basic public services, however, worsening the score in this indicator by over two points. In the territories which they control, the guerrilla and paramilitary forces act as the de-facto security forces, not the Colombian military or police, accounting for the high score in the security apparatus indicator. External influence primarily comes from the U.S., which provides massive amounts of aid and training for drug eradication programs. While the U.S. was still quite active in assisting Colombia in 2005, there was less reporting of direct U.S. military involvement in the country, which accounts for a lowering of the score for External Influence.
